Tushar Agarwal
Talent Manager, NoFiltr.
From what I’ve gathered in the last year of managing talent, it is extremely important for one to be confident. It really is the key.
Well, that wasn’t the case or the lock with me.
I had always been a “fat” child. From the earliest memories I have, every time I was in a room full of people, I remember awarding myself an imaginary ‘fattest person in the room’ title.
That says a lot about my self-esteem now, doesn’t it?
So, to cope with it, I used books as my emotional parachute. I began studying for hours, trying to escape the reality. I secured good grades, for sure, but there was no signs of happiness or security.
I began eating my feelings, found comfort in food.
I went to college with a few more added kilos and an extremely low self-esteem.
It was around this time that I was just constantly trying to avoid contact with other humans. I had zero confidence in myself and isolating myself was the only option.
It’s been quite a journey, from not wanting to speak to people at all and now doing that, all day long.
The job of a talent manager requires a lot of communicating and networking. Something the “fat” kid from the past wasn’t comfortable with. This story, to be honest, isn’t about self-acceptance but about the work that I put into actually being comfortable in my own skin.
It started with me spending a lot more time at the gym than at home. It was a really long and tiring process but it helped my esteem and confidence. I could feel it and I could see it. I lost around 55-60 kgs and there I was, feeling so much better about myself, somehow, I didn’t recognize the “fat” kid anymore.
Another stepping stone was when I enrolled for BMS and opened up and discovered my gifts. I started talking to people and putting forth my ideas. That is when I figured out how much I enjoyed the process and about talent management. The next right thing for me to do seemed like taking up a course in celebrity management. My life did a 180 in the right direction and since, I’ve never looked back.
I’m so proud of the person I am today, I fought really hard to become him.
The next thing on my check list is to be one of the best in my field. I’m a work in progress.
“Self-confidence is a super power. Once you start believing in yourself, magic starts happening.”
