For our readers, please give us a brief introduction about yourself?
My name is LJGOLD and I am a recording artist/ entrepreneur from Oakland, CA. I’ve been doing music for 15 years.
Can you tell us the story that brought you into this specific music career path?
I started changing how I approached music back in 2016. It was the first time I started to struggle with life as an adult. It started mentally and then it leads me to become homeless, which is when I started going through depression. During that time I was blessed to have met my fiancé who was there for me to help me grow through it all. We were homeless together and it grew our family beyond what I could’ve imagined which became the toughest moments in my life because at that point it wasn’t just me anymore. We fought through hotels and sleepless nights of living in cars and not knowing if we would have a place to stay. That life experience grew me into a stronger human being and throughout that struggle, I’ve discovered my purpose down that road, which lead me to the music career path I’ve created today.
If you could sum up your music in just 3 words, what would they be?
Powerful, Deep, Motivational
You have done about 450K streams in over 90 countries on Spotify this year. How do you feel about this great achievement?
It feels great! I listen to Spotify as a music listener and the achievement of growing to what is now over half a million streams on a platform like Spotify has been a special feeling to me. Now I’m just looking to break more barriers in my music career as I reach new heights as an artist.
What advice can you give to emerging artists who are trying to break into the music industry?
Focus on your own path and start off small. Put your focus into one area where you feel you can be best at. Mines was Spotify. Social media is today’s wave so figure out which social media site is your favorite and learn that app to the best of your ability! Socialize on there and get your music out! With hard work and focus, you will soon build your fanbase throughout social media as a whole. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. choose one of them because, at the end of the day, you gotta start somewhere!
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Take advantage of the knowledge that’s out there! It wasn’t available when I was doing music as information was limited. I didn’t have access to the internet the way people have access to it today. So do your research and find your path. You need a story to tell the world to help them learn about you. Find out what makes you who you are and keep things simple.
What do you see as your greatest success in life?
My greatest success was my family. I wouldn’t have grown to be the artist I am today if it wasn’t for them. I’ve learned the true meaning of love thanks to my fiancé and through my rollercoaster life, I have learned who I am which is priceless. Now I can pursue my career in the way I wish I could’ve done since the beginning of my career.
Thank you so much LJGOLD for joining us for this interview. We wish you all luck in all your future endeavors.
