Nine Years Ago He Was Facing Jail Time In A Foreign Prison, Today Elite Athletes And Million Dollar Companies Seek Advice From Clay Moffat

What’s your backstory?

I grew up in regular middle class home like a lot children in Australia. Not too much, not too little. But for some reason, I always felt this pulsating feeling within me to break out and search for more.

My dad, being an ex-sniper had a measure of the world that intrigued me. Kept me moving forward. His stories, his life has intrigued me. I wanted to see the world and make something of myself too.

After High School, I followed in my father’s military footsteps, joined the Royal Australian Navy and became a Weapons Specialist serving a tour during the second Iraq War. I quickly discovered the military lifestyle was not for me.

Taking orders, being treated as an obedient sheep, and forced to be apart of bringing untold terror upon another country all under the guise of “doing my job.” It made me miserable. I turned to alcohol to numb the pain.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There is no person I respect more than someone willing to give their lives for their country… Simply put, I was searching for a different kind of  freedom, happiness, and purpose. And I didn’t find it in the military. When I got back home from Iraq, I walked off my naval ship never to return.

Shortly after, what can only be described as a “freak accident,” I ended up damaging my retina, and my vision would never return to normal. Denying what had happened only made me party harder and longer. So, I took my experience into the Subsea Engineering field and worked as a contractor for large Oil & Gas Drilling contractors around the globe. I made more money than ever. But I was still lacking meaning.

Quickly my life began spiraling down into an endless internal void. An empty hell once again. I made some rookie mistakes, ended up getting arrested, facing some serious prison time. Alcohol had had its way with me. I was a mess. And couldn’t look my parents in the eyes.

Then i went through another war, the “Oil Price War” of 2014 hit, oil prices tanked, causing my career in the Oil & Gas business to end abruptly. It was a blessing in disguise, although I didn’t see it that way at first.

Since 2011 I’ve been reading, studying and implementing courses, books, videos and live trainings, on influence, persuasion, NLP, hypnosis, psychology, body language and coaching. Anything so I could continue learning how to communicate with myself, and learning how to communicate with the world.

What made you decide to choose this career path?

My life burned down to the ground right before eyes. I was left with nothing – barely even a glimmer of hope.

Admitting that I needed to learn how to communicate at 27 was no small task either. It shattered everything I thought I knew about myself, including my ego.

Learning to communicate is essential. And I not only needed to learn how to communicate with others… it was actually, more that I needed to communicate with myself, with my mind and heart in the right way.

So I started to learn how to do that. I dove headfirst into the fields of NLP, Hypnotism, Mindset, Psychology, Neuroscience & Linguistics. When I started to see my life improving, others came to ask for advice, so I helped them out. This lit a fire within me!

Soon thereafter, I started taking on clients. It started slowly – but I remained consistent. It became my life’s work. It’s been 9 years since I recognized the power to change was within me and not something else, and I’ve never looked back since.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Early on in my work in NLP, I quickly learned the power of words, and how literal some people can take them.

One of my earliest clients was a fairly successful guy. He’d travel, live a good life, laugh, meet women, all that stuff. Yet when he returned home, he’d sit in his balcony on his chair and start thinking about all the negative things in his life. And instantly become depressed again.

You see, the chair had become a “trigger” in his brain. And whenever he saw it or sat in it, his mind would go to these dark places.

Speaking in metaphor, I shared with him how in some cultures, a rebirth is portrayed by emerging from the fire… like a Phoenix for example.

We finished our work, and shortly after he returned home I received an angry email from him. “Why did you tell me to burn all my stuff?!”

Needless to say, his depression was fixed, and he now has a deeply positive association with  fire.

What do you think makes your company/personal brand stand out?

Hands down, my clients. They are my #1 priority. I’m flexible with my clients. My clients pay me to get them results, so I do whatever I can do to get them results.

We use cutting edge neuroscience research, and use multi-layered “deep learning” and Neuro-Autonomic Processing (NAP) technology. But at the end of it all – we focus on the customer experience, customer results, and customer satisfaction.

What’s a quote that you live by?

“You’re lucky,” my dad would always say that.

Whenever I would go to him with a problem, no matter what, he would always reply with those two words… “You’re lucky”.

My dad was a Special Forces Sniper, tough as nails, and a real badass.

His thought process was, no matter what happens in life you can always turn it around in your favor. The only thing that’s constant in life is change… things are always changing.

So, if you can keep your mind flexible, and see everything that comes your way as a blessing in disguise, then you’re well on your way to championing a truly magical life for you and your loved ones.

There’s always at least one reason why I am lucky… And that’s why even when I lose, I win.
