MBE awarded to equality campaigner and activist Sandy Idigibe

AN EQUAL rights campaigner, and activist from London has been made an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list

Sandy Idigibe receives her MBE in recognition of her services to children and young people.

Sandy believes that you cannot be a true advocate for young people if you don’t get involved in the major issues which affect their lives. Recently attending an APPG discussion on knife crime, Sandy sat alongside rapper and television personality Professor Green to evaluate policies and programmes aimed at reducing knife crime.

Ms Idigibe has a substantial following online and regularly gives talks across Europe. She is the national executive director of NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service) – a UK charity which offers information, advice, advocacy and legal representation to children, young people and vulnerable adults throughout England and Wales.

Ms Idigibe who was also awarded the prestigious Baton 2019 awards, is also a vice chairwoman for Amnesty International UK.

She said: “I was in total shock when the letter arrived.

“It looked very official and I thought it may have been a parking fine.

“It is a great privilege to be recognised for services that make a difference to the lives of children and young people and I accept the recognition on behalf of everyone that is making this difference.”
