Interview with Rebecca M. Huey from Cursive Kidz®️

I had the pleasure of interviewing Rebecca M. Huey who the owner of Cursive Kidz®️ a company that is doing some amazing work in Africa, helping children learn and grow in education.
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
It’s a pleasure! Thank you for taking the time to interview me. I am humbly honored. It is a blessing. First, I was a business major all throughout my high school career. I also majored in business in college with a concentration in Paralegal. It wasn’t until 2013-2014 that I started to bring to life my own product – my first electronic tablet product to be exact. I actually sought out the help of a large corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for assistance and it didn’t go so well! I was brand new at learning how to bring a product to life, applying for a provisional patent and the large corporation that was previously helping me gave me limited information, never telling me my provisional patent expired until I received notification by mail directly from the USPTO. It was a BIG fail. It was through all this I rebranded and branched off on my own.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your company?
Since I started Education Creation LLC I would have to say the most interesting story is utilizing my time while having limited income and limited help. I have NEVER given up no matter how hard it got. I did not quite when I was told no. I did not stop seeking a new path when I was at a standstill. I did not let others tell me no when God kept telling me yes and opening doors for me to walk through each new door even if I was uncomfortable, I walked through those doors trusting God. I pushed myself with determination because I wanted a better future, I have a long term dream and vision to also help others and keeping my Trademark growing across the world. It is my heart to serve God in Nigeria and also as an entrepreneur help 3rd world countries have educational products and resources.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
The funniest mistake I have made to date thinking back when I first started was when I tried to depend on my cell phone voice command while communicating in a meeting. It had a mind of its own and spelled words I didn’t speak and sent them without me realizing it until after.
The lesson I learned from that was I no longer use voice command because it never gets my words correct.
What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?
What makes my company stand out is the passion, drive and determination to help foreign countries have affordable educational products and resources. My Trademark Cursive Kidz®️ has recently partnered with Emidek Press/City Track Magazine CEO Aderibigbe Gbolahan of Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, Africa helping children learn and grow in education.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Some tips off the top of my head that I would recommend to my colleagues is stand strong in the midst of your trials as you grow and keep pushing forward as new doors open. It takes time and hard work. Find what works for you and your team. Just like the movie “Big Hero 6” find a new way when your at a dead end, pray and seek God. You will never burn out when God is involved. Do not let others tell you no. We each have our own unique gifts and talents to use while we are alive on this earth. God wants His best for us. You can and will achieve great things. NEVER let go of your dreams. Seek God and let Him help you bring them to life.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
There are a few people that come to my heart in particular that I am truly grateful for that helped me get to where I am today. God is my first answer, Delta College Small Business Division, Saginaw, Michigan, Mid-Michigan Inventors Council, Michigan State Police Trooper Steven A. Kramer and my inner closest family and friends that literally watched my journey unfold especially into Africa! They all breathed life into me. They helped build me up. They prayed with me,
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
Currently my business partner and I are helping bring quality and affordable educational products and resources to Nigeria. I am the first US female to partner with a business in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, Africa to serve in educational products and the mission field. We are totally stepping out in faith and expecting God for big things. His word is truth in our lives. Together with Aderibigbe Gbolahan, Flourish Bible Church Pastored by Ibukun and his wife, and I have started a food and clothing project to help the orphans, farmers and destitute in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, Africa through The Rebecca M. Huey Mission Outreach (under current developments). From the USA we shipped 634 packs of NON-GMO seeds of various varieties of fruits and veggies to be given to poor farmers and to be planted in June 2019. We also shipped 5 boxes of new clothing to be given to the orphans in Akure scheduled for June 2019 also.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
I would say my quote is “When life gets tough God is bigger” there is not one battle we face that God can’t see us through. This is relevant to my life now as actress, entrepreneur and serving in the mission field.
What are your “5 things I wish someone told me before I started my company” and why. Please share a story or example for each.
I would just like to leave someone with 5 uplifting things going forward for your company:
•Prayer is an important part of your business
•Trusting God blind when you can’t see the road ahead
•Accept criticism. It will allow you to invent something far greater than anything
•Do not settle for less than God’s best in your life or your business
•When people reject you or tell you no don’t get discouraged because God will bring othes into your life that were also meant to be.
You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
