Interview with Giuseppe Pignataro

We had the pleasure of interviewing Giuseppe Pignataro, CEO and developer of Fastbyte01

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Interesting question. I honestly can not give a specific explanation of why I’m interested in information technology but it all started with a gift from an uncle, a commodore 64, and from there the road was all downhill. It was love at first sight.Since that time, computers and computer science have become practically my life. And from that commodore 64 I started living like a Hacker. Hacker not with the meaning that is attributed today by the media but hackers like someone who use their technical knowledge to overcome a problem.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your company?

Every day is an interesting story. The biggest problem was that at the beginning of my career I was very insecure about my skills and this led me to give a lot of weight to customers and their questionable choices, which led me to realize jobs that I was not proud of.

Then, over time, things have changed and today in addition to choosing customers, I can advise them in the best possible way, so you can create works that are excellent for both parties.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

When you make a mistake it’s never fun, but at the beginning of my career I was working at the same time developing two websites and I uploaded the inverted sites to the two clients. Today, I would not do anymore a so stupid mistake, but this helped me to understand that we need to pay more attention to the little things.

What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?

Quality and innovation. In my projects I always try to guarantee a high level of quality together with the possibility to innovate.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I would simply recommend doing their job with passion.
If you work with passion the hours spent alone in front of a monitor become lighter.

And when you lose the passion that things get ugly. If you do not work more with passion and you lose motivations, then it is better to change your job.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Honestly I do not have a particular story to tell, but what has helped me a lot in these years was the support of my family and my future wife Roberta.

You endure the hours, paranoias and habits of a hacker is complex, if you then add that I suffer from Asperger’s syndrome, the situation does not present itself of the best for those who must stay next to you.
Those who have been with me and endured me over the years have had great patience and I am grateful for this.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Although honestly I do not know if what I have done in my work has really brought something good in the world, because the world is very difficult and complex, as complex are the people who live there.

It took me a good part of my life to show people the benefits that technology could bring to their lives and how a conscious use of new technologies can break down some physical and mental barriers that we encounter every day.

I have also spent a lot of time contributing to various open source and free software projects, because I think that knowledge and skills must be shared within a community so that the community can evolve.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

I do not have a favorite phrase or concept, but it’s more a lifestyle.

But I think we must not take reality of world for granted, we must try to break and rebuild what we do not like. We must try to outsmart the world itself.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me before I started my company” and why. Please share a story or example for each.

Only 5… ok it’s difficult but I would say:
– Time to market. We must not waste much time trying to implement a perfect solution, since it is impossible. But you have to release a product when it is ready enough and grow it over time. I lost a lot of things just for waiting and trying to create a perfect product.

– Take any work – One of the mistakes you do very often when you start and take any work that happens to cash some money. Although initially it may seem like a good idea, in the end it is not. We need to take the jobs we are most capable of and do them with passion and not take anything and then do the job badly.

– Never stop dreaming. Even if having a company is a task that compels us to be very real, we must never stop dreaming, because is from our dreams the best ideas are born.

– Always believe – When you start a project you have to believe in it even when everything seems to go wrong.

– Take some time for yourself. Life is not just work. We must also take some time for ourselves. Working in computer science and sometimes very heavy, you can even spend 16 hours in front of a monitor by writing code. For this we must take a mandatory break every day simply to take a walk and not to think about work for a while.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

Literacy. If I could, I would create a movement that would bring more culture to people. Culture is what can really lead to an evolution of the world as we know it today. Simply if there are more intelligent people, the whole world would be smarter.
