Davis Abanto – Passion, Purpose, Personal Brand

Earlier this week I got the chance to sit down with Davis and talk about his journey in entrepreneurship and the success he’s had along the way.

  • Hey Davis, describe yourself in one paragraph.

I’m a happy person. I am ambitious, driven and I’m passionate about what I do. My main motivation is my family and the ability to give back to the community as I grow my businesses. Networking and meeting new people is another thing I love because it’s powerful. When you surround yourself with people who have goals, passions and vision, they will help you push harder on your goals, motivate you to be better and realize your true potential.

  • What are the top 3 things that you feel have contributed to your success in entrepreneurship?

The short answer: bad decisions, good decisions and a mentor.

BAD DECISIONS are what teach us the greatest lessons of our lives. We need to make mistakes and experience failure, regret and much more.

People make hundreds of small decisions on a daily basis without even noticing it. Good or bad, we shouldn’t be scared. Mistakes and bad decisions make us stronger, wiser, and more experienced. They help us to develop our personalities.

Bad decisions are part of the lifelong learning process and in my own experience, without bad decisions I wouldn’t be doing what I currently do.

GOOD DECISIONS take your life to the next level and of course, it goes hand in hand with “bad decisions” because the only way to make GOOD decisions is to make mistakes and experience life when you make bad decisions. It may sound confusing but it’s true.

And the last one is a MENTOR. Someone who can guide you on the right path. It’s never too early or too late to find a mentor in your life. It might be a teacher, coach, boss, family member or a friend, but it doesn’t need to be difficult. A mentor will help you succeed quicker and save you from a few missteps. (Warning: you will still make mistakes and bad decisions because that’s how life is haha)

  •  What advice would you give to someone that’s looking to create success and start out entrepreneurship.

If you are starting your entrepreneurial journey, the main thing you will have to do is to find your passion. For me, passion is everything because if your main reason to start a business is money or something else WITHOUT passion, then you will eventually give up when things don’t go as expected. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes or trying new things and always give back whenever possible.

  •  Is personal branding important nowadays?

In my opinion, personal branding is one of the keys to success nowadays and it’s more important than ever. To sum it all up, your personal brand is YOU, the real you. Just to quote something great that Jeff Bezos said before (the founder of Amazon) “Your personal brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room.” And he’s right.

Some people don’t even realize it, but they already have a personal brand.

What type of impression people will have of you? Is it a good one? Are you being honest and transparent with whatever you share on social media? Whether you are going on a date or a job interview, chances are they will google your name to learn more about who you are.

Effective personal branding will differentiate you from your competitors and allow you to build trust and if you want to start building your personal brand, just be yourself and stay true to your core values.

  • Are you happy and what would you change?

Yes, as mentioned before, I’m happy. Happiness is important and there are so many people out there who sacrifice their health, sanity, and happiness in pursuit of success. The ones who are truly happy, however, are the ones who have found a way to balance all of the various facets of their life.

I wouldn’t change anything in my life right now because everything happens for a reason and I’m not gonna say I mastered 100% that balance but I do what I love, enjoy life, and I focus every day to become a better version of myself.

  • 3 core values
  1. Ambition.

Ambition for personal growth. What good is a life without growth? All the personal wealth in the world carries no value if it is not used in a way that allows us to explore, enjoy, learn, and grow.

2. Appreciation

There are plenty of things that we can appreciate on a daily basis. I believe that we have to open our eyes and realize how lucky we are to be who we are and to have what we have.

3. Gratitude

I’m grateful for everything in my life and I show my gratitude to the world whenever possible by giving back to others when I have the chance.

  • If you could send one message to anyone that aspires to be like you, what would it be?

Just be yourself. We all have something special in all of us, so you have to find it and let it grow. That will become your passion and motivation to succeed in life. Now, It’s not as simple as it sounds but it’s worth it once you know what it is, so don’t give up and give it all you’ve got.
